Be Awesome - A Whimsical mixed-media Girl

Hello my friends!
I thought you might like to see what I did with my whimsical girl.  As I mentioned in my earlier post, I thought I might cut her out and use her on a mixed-media piece.

I started off with some Canson watercolour paper.

I started off with some pink craft paint that I applied with a baby wipe.  To be honest, this was originally starting out as something else that ended up being the background for my whimsical girl.  That's why I was using craft paint.

Then I collaged on a few pieces of a pretty napkin.  Then I used a light coat of gesso to push it back a bit

Next I added some gold embossing paste through a couple of stencils.  That Tim Holtz stencil is my absolute favourite!

Then I added some sprays.

I cut out my girl, edged her with gold ink  and adhered her to my page.  I added some more embossing paste on top of her to tie everything together.  I also added some more spray.  Suddenly she had little purple freckles!  I thought I had covered her, but I didn't want to end up with a harsh line, and it turns out I didn't protect her well enough.  Now, I have a confession too make.  Because I wasn't initially sure what I was going to do, I made a copy of her.  So the truth is, the copy ended up with the freckles.  Which, having freckles myself (although not purple), I don't mind. Then I printed out my words, edged them with gold ink, then black archival ink, and added them to my page.

Then I got out  one of my PITT pens and some stamps and ink for some finishing touches.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed your visit!  Have  an artful day and
BE AWESOME!

MMM #11 Torn Paper Strips Mixed Media Morsels

Welcome to my blog!
This is a background I created using torn paper strips, a prompt from Cat on the Mixed Media Morsels FB group.  Cat Hand posts weekly videos with different mixed media techniques to try.  She calls them "morsels".  I have been doing my morsels in a random order.  Sometimes they might work with a tag challenge that I am doing, or sometimes Ii may have supplies out that will work with a particular morsel, or sometimes there may be one that I am just in the mood to try.  I did join this group a little late, but there is no pressure to get anything done by a specific time and they are all just suggestions.  Everyone does them their own way.  But again, as in the One Little Tag Craft Challenge FB group that I participate in, it's all about staying creative and inspired.  Keeping it fun is a big part of the creative process, in my opinion anyways!
For this technique, I took some printed tissue (that I used for MMM #5 an earlier post), some plain tissue paper and some plain white paper.  I used various different sprays, Dylusions, Heidi Swapp, Recollections Colorsplash or Boho and some Lindy's stamp gang..  I sprayed the paper and tissue, let it dry and then tore it into strips.  I collaged the strips onto the tag with mod podge.
I like the way this turned out and I have lots of papers left to collage some more tags or maybe a canvas.
Thanks for looking, have an awesome and artful day!

Mixed Media Morsel #5 - Tissue paper background

Hello my friends!
Todays tag is for the Mixed Media Morsels group.  This is MMM#5, which is a prompt to use tissue paper as your background.  I used Tim Holtz printed tissue paper, mod podged it onto my tag.  I then used various  Dylusions sprays to colour it.  For the finishing touches, I used my Gold ink pad to swipe across the raised areas and along the edges and finally, some black archival ink on the very edges.  Oh, and of coarse, some splatters!  I like how this turned out.  I'm not sure how I am going to finish off this background into a tag, but I will be sure to share when I do!
Thank you for stopping by.  Have an awesome and artful day!

Tag 3-10 "Find Your Way" ‪#‎onelittletag‬

Simple tag tonight. Sponged the background with picked raspberry distress ink. I made my own stencil using a punch I have and sponged with wilted violet and blue sketchprint distress inks. Splattered a little water and also splattered some white Dylusions spray. Printed out my words, assembled and mounted to black card.

Tag 3-5 "Break Out" ‪#‎onelittletag

Tag 3-5   "Break Out"   ‪#‎onelittletag‬
This is another tag I started on Monday while playing with spray and stencils. I cut away some bricks and printed out my words. I trimmed them out and sponged them with distress ink. I sponged around the edges of the tag with distress ink and also sponged in the areas that the stencil didn't cover. I could have trimmed it downbut I thought it just added a bit of interest. I punched the corners and mounted to black card.

Tag 3-4 "Relax" #onelittletag

Tag 3-4 "Relax" #onelittletag
I was running a little short on time tonight, so I used this tag that I started the other night. I embossed in black as a resist and wet the background and dropped watercolour into it. The birds on the wires were from ny stash, as was the word. I did some sponging with distress inks, punched the corners and assembled my tag.

Tag 3-3 :Reflect" #onelittletag

Tag 3-3 "Reflect" ‪#onelittletag
As I mentioned yesterday, after I watercoloured the tag I was working on, I moved on to playing with my sprays and stencils. This is one of those tags. I LOVE how the background turned out on this, I don't know if the photo does it justice. And it was one of those happy accidents. I sprayed using Dylusions, Recolections, Heidi Swapp and Distress Bronze. The stencil lifted and I got a pool of spray on my tag and I tried to sop some of it u...p. You can't really see the original stencil amymore, but I love the effect it created. Then, I sprayed another tag with my TH Brick stencil with the bronze and I used the ink that was left on the stencil , flipped it over and added it to this tag. I added a bit of gold stamping and edging. I have had this fairy i my stash that I coloured and fussy cut eons ago, and she just seemed to suit the background even thogh the colours were similar. I had a quote in mind that suited tis image really well, but I will save it for anither time because I didn't want to cover up any more of the background. "Reflect" is the word that came to mind, so I printed it out, sponged with blueprint sketch distress ink and assembled my tag. I outlined the fairy with my PITT pen and I'm happy

Another Month Finished #onelittletag

Another month of tags finished.  I can't believe that I have kept up!  I haven't done a tag every single day (although most days!)  and I often play catch up, but it is definitely keeping me in the creative frame of mind.  That is the whole point.  I have gotten things out from the back of the shelves and given them a little love, have done some experimenting and all-in-all, have been having a good time.
My own personal goal was to do at least seven cards or tags a week.  Not necessarily one a day, and not even necessarily seven different ones, just seven.  This challenge ( One Little Tag Craft Challenge on FB, for anyone new to my blog) has really kept me on track.  Actually, including the bonus tags and the duplicates, I have created 69 tags so far this year!  Wow!
So I would like to thank those of you who have been following along, and invite those of you who have recently viewed my blog to join me on my little tag journey of creativity.  AND my journey into blogging, something I have never done before (being as technically challenged as I am, lol)
Thank you and hope to see you here again soon!  If you like what I have been doing, please share! And if you enjoy making tags or looking at tags, you should check out and join One Little Tag Craft Challenge on FB hosted by Jenny Barnett Rohrs of CraftTestDummies.  It is a great group of talented and supportive and super nice people, and you are welcome to join at any time through the year.  I am enjoying it so much!

Tag 2-12 Daance to your own Music #onelittletag

Tags 2-12
I got home late tonight so I didn't have time to make a new tag or to even think of a new idea. I'm going to be pretty busy for the next couple of days, but I still wanted to do a tag and not get too far behind. So, I started these the other day but they were not working out for me. I used the mask from my Dylusions stencil and I cut out some hair from some shelving paper to give the image more movement. The paint leaked under the mask and my backgrounds underneath... were too busy. I thought I would try and rescue them tonight. I added some quick outlines (inlines?) with my white gel pen and my black gel pen (PITT pen on one of them). It's kinda messy, but I am deliberately messy when I do that because it's really tough for me to do with my vision, especially quickly! I used my Inkadinkadoo stamp, which is what I had originally intended to do. I edged my tag and my sentiment with my black archival ink. So, I didn't meet the tic tac toe challenge, but I did use negative space. These are definately not my best, but I can live with them. They can't all be our best, right?
I really should be in bed already, so I will say Good Night, and thanks for stopping by!

Tags 2-10 The Caterpillar #onelittletag

Tag(s) 2-10
Today is another 2 tag day. They are very similar, but I wanted to try something different with the negative space.

I used some of the backgrounds I created last week with my colorburst and different sprays (Lindy's and Dylusions)

I used a couple of stamp/die sets and die cut some masks out of low tac shelving paper. I wanted to try one with the stamped image and one without.

I cut out my quote , glued it on and masked it as well with painters tape so it would also be in negative space.

Im still using mothball items (because it's a good idea!) and I pulled out the only two Dylusions paints I have, neither of which I have used before. London blue and Vibrant Turquoise. I painted over everything, did a little stencilling in black ( some positive on my negative, lol)

I pulled away all my masks and added a little something with my white gel pen. I mounted to some black card.
In retrospect, Ithink I could've chosen diferent paint colours, but I wanted to try the Dylusions, and it's not too bad.

Thank you for checking out my blog.  Some times I post a little pictorial tutorial, like today, and sometimes I just post the tag of the day. If you enjoy the little tutorials, please let me know and I will post them as often as I can.
