A white paint pen / mark making comparison

Hello my friends!
I was doing a comparison of my white paint pens and thought it may be of some interest to some of you.  So, today I am sharing my results.
I have a couple of Posca paint pens.  These are not readily available.  In fact I don't personally know of any where local where I can purchase them, so I ordered them off Amazon.ca.  They took forever to get here and were a little pricey.  But I have to say, they are really good, probably the best that I have tried.
I purchased the Sharpie locally, I'm not sure where, probably Michaels or DeSerres.  They are easy to find.
I found the Daler Rowney paint pen at Walmart yesterday.  It came in a package of two, one white and one black.  I t was $4.97 for the package.  I was very pleasantly surprised wit these pens.  I had not seen them before, but am glad to find a paint pen that is locally available.  The Decocolor paint pen was purchased at the Creative Festival I attended a couple of months ago in Toronto.  I got three of them and was assured by the booth owner that they were great and would work on anything.  I will let you judge the results.
I bought my Pitt pen at Michaels or DeSerres.
I got my Uniball pen online and my Gelli Roll gel pen locally.
The first substrate I tried them on was black card

The Posca pens were great, the Sharpie soaked in to the uncoated card quite a bit.  The Daler Rowney pen worked quite well.  The Decocolor paint pen almost disappeared into the black card.  It actually shows up better in the photo than it does in reality.  The Pitt pen was okay and the Uniball and Gelliroll gel pen were fine on black card.

I decided to coat the card with matte and gloss Mod Podge, as most mixed media pieces would be coated with this or some sort of medium.

They all worked fairly well once the card was coated.  Interestingly, the finer Posca pen splattered a little bit when writing over the texture of the brush strokes.  The Decocolor pen worked much better, but is still somewhat translucent. The PITT pen is not super opaque.

As you can see, the results on the gloss Mod Podge are the same as the Matte  Mod Podge.

I also had an extra fine Sharpie paint pen, but disappointingly, I could not compare it because the pen would not write.  The paint did  come out, but the pen just did not work.  I have to mention that I have found that to be the case with other Sharpie paint pens.  They work great the first time I use them, but when I go back and try use them a second or third time, they often don't work well.

So in conclusion, this is what I have found.  To me, the Posca pens were the best, although I was a little disappointed in the splattering of the fine pen on texture, because I know any of my mixed media projects will be textured and it would be nice to have a fine pen for writing.  I am hoping that it may "calm down".  My second favouite, for my purposes, is the Daler Rowney pen that I just discovered.  It works well and it is reasonably priced.  I wish it came with a finer nib, but this will probably be my "go-to" pen as it is economical and available locally.  I will be on the look-out for a finer line paint pen that is more easily attainable that gives good results.  I will let you know how that goes  I will not purchase the Decocolour pen again.  I love my PITT pens and will always have a use for them, so I will always keep a white one on hand.  Lastly, I really like my Gelli Roll gel pen and my Uniball gel pen.

I hope this has been of some help to those of you who may be wondering what kind of white pen to purchase.

Thanks for stopping by, have an awesome and artful day!

Tag 2-24 Let it Go #onelittletag

Tag 2-24 Let it Go ‪#‎onelittletag‬
My slump didn't last long, once I had everything out. I attempted this tag a few different ways and this is the way I liked the best.   I used my laser printer to copy my stamped image .  I used my laminator and deco foil to foil the balloons and my sentiment. (there is a tutorial on my 3rd post called "Try Something New" that will show how I do this) Then I used distress ink to colour around the balloons to create the idea of a sky. I also used distress ink to sponge in some colour on the balloons. I used a glue pen to add some random dots and foiled those (I'm trying to use my foil in a few different ways). I used my gold ink to finish the edges and mounted to a black tag. I have to say, foiling really picks up all the details that embossing just can't quite achieve.

I used the same process to do the foiling on this tag, I just used a coloured card instead of white.  No distress ink on this one.

This tag was pretty much a fail, but I thought I'd share it anyways to show the difference between the foiling and the heat embossing, which I used here.

Thanks for dropping in!

Tag 2-14 I Love You #onelittletag

Tag 2-14 I Love You
Caught up! This time I used printed paper for the background and an old QuiKutz die for the heart and arrow. Again I die cut an aperture with my die. I sponged some yellow ink on some white card to back up the heart aperture. I used the Tim Holtz Valentines stencil for the words in Picked Raspberry ink. I used some distress ink to do some sponging on the background, I used my PITT pen to do some detailing. The heart is my negative space, tic tac toe = purple, pink & yellow
Happy Valentine's!

Tag 2-13 Let the Wind Carry You #onelittletag

Tag 2-13 Let the Wind Carry You
I used one of my disress inked prepared backgrounds. Memory Box bird die, a scrap of paper which I sponged with picked Raspberry distress ink for behind the die cut apeture of the bird. The stamp is from my new Prima Birds stamp set I just got.. My cut out bird is my negative space, I got two lines on Tic Tac Toe - purple, pink & yellow and bird, pink & bling

Tag 2-12 Daance to your own Music #onelittletag

Tags 2-12
I got home late tonight so I didn't have time to make a new tag or to even think of a new idea. I'm going to be pretty busy for the next couple of days, but I still wanted to do a tag and not get too far behind. So, I started these the other day but they were not working out for me. I used the mask from my Dylusions stencil and I cut out some hair from some shelving paper to give the image more movement. The paint leaked under the mask and my backgrounds underneath... were too busy. I thought I would try and rescue them tonight. I added some quick outlines (inlines?) with my white gel pen and my black gel pen (PITT pen on one of them). It's kinda messy, but I am deliberately messy when I do that because it's really tough for me to do with my vision, especially quickly! I used my Inkadinkadoo stamp, which is what I had originally intended to do. I edged my tag and my sentiment with my black archival ink. So, I didn't meet the tic tac toe challenge, but I did use negative space. These are definately not my best, but I can live with them. They can't all be our best, right?
I really should be in bed already, so I will say Good Night, and thanks for stopping by!

Bonus tag - When Life gives you Lemons #onelittletag

This is another bonus tag. I did it a couple of days ago and was going to save it for todays tag, but we have a new challenge and I wanted to move on! I wanted to show this tag because I used almost the same background as the winter scene I did for yesterdays tag, but did something totally different. The background was done with the same ink at the same time and they were very similar before I added the unexpected snowfall!

Tag 2-9 Snowy Night #onelittletag

Tag 2-9
I really struggled with this one and I just couldn't leave it alone, it kept getting messier and messier. I'm not sure if I like it or not. One minute I look at it and say, yeah, it's okay, and the next minute I don't like it. When I made my tag 23, I tried out a few different backgrounds, this was one of them. I wiped my distress ink on the kraft mat, sprayed with water and dredged the paper through it. (there is one more backgroung that was very similar to this one and I've done something completely different with it). I used a Stampendous stamp set. The only thing I had used out of it was the birds. It did not start off as a snow scene, but one thing led to another...
